Self-care means taking the time to do things that help you live well and improve both your physical and mental health. Self-care can help you manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and increase your energy. Even small acts of self-care in your daily life can have a big impact. [Reference Sited]
Each of us defines self-care a little differently. Going for a run, taking a hot bath, or reading a good book can provide a peacefulness. For me, it is being organized … and helping others to be organized! Very often, fully enjoying a run, a bath or a book only happens when your surroundings are clear from clutter and not creating mental distractions.
So, where do you start? You can contact Laurey to help identify, declutter and organize your space or you can try doing it yourself. It’s best to concentrate on one area at a time. Staying focused and completing this “makeover” can motivate you to do another, and another.
You’ve decided to tackle your workspace - desk and drawers.
1. It’s likely there are piles of outdated papers, pens that don’t work, gum wrappers
that didn’t get into the garbage can. Now is the time to shred or toss them!
2. With what’s left, determine if your desk is the place where they truly belong.
Chances are things can be properly put away.
3. With two-thirds of your desk’s contents gone, concentrate on the remaining,
necessary items.
a. Do you need organizing containers to keep similar things together? Do you
already have some but aren’t using them effectively?
b. Do you need an action system? A filing system?
c. Are the many pictures on your desk getting in the way of comfortably using
your computer or writing a note? You may want to relocate or digitize them.
4. When putting back the remaining items, be intentional so you’re happy with the
outcome. This is YOUR space, and it should make YOU feel good.
You are done! It feels nice, right? Now when you sit down or stand up to work, you can think more clearly. You will continue to put things away in their proper places going forward so clutter doesn’t build up again. You may even begin thinking about the next space you’ll tackle!
